Live and experience

Here you can read more about our beautiful region. The most common and typical outdoor activity among Norwegians is hiking in the mountains and nature, or taking a Sunday walk nearby. Cross-country skiing is mandatory in winter.
To plan your trip, both in summer and winter, you will get good guidance from the website or app of the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT), where you can choose between Norwegian, English, German, or French language options.
DNT has 550 cabins across Norway, a network of 22,000 km of marked hiking trails, and approximately 7,000 km of ski tracks.

Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park

Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park is a fantastic combined zoo and amusement park just outside Kristiansand. The park officially opened in 1966 and has since developed into the second most visited tourist attraction in Norway after Holmenkollen. Here you can see animals from around the world, enjoy a water park, and experience Norwegian fairy tales up close.

The park is open year-round, but with limited offerings in winter. During the school summer holiday, all attractions are open and many shows are performed daily.

The county has several popular educational institutions, including the University of Agder and Noroff.

Transport

Public transport

When traveling to or from our region, you can do so by plane, train, bus, or ferry to Denmark or Germany.

Car rental

Leasing a car for a longer period without a Norwegian personal ID number or financial history can be challenging.

If you need a rental or leased car, you can contact the local dealer Gumpen, which can offer favourable agreements based solely on written confirmation from your employer. Order here or send an email to Kenneth Abrahamsen, or call (+47) 456 64566. The car can be easily picked up at Kristiansand airport if needed. Note: your insurance company in your home country retains a document showing your possible previous driving claims. We recommend bringing this to Norway, as some dealers or insurance companies may request it before giving a price. Also, check the validity of your driver’s license in Norway.
